Like champagne, the term "cognac" is protected by the WTO since the Doha round (2001). Only producers based (and homologated) in the French region of Cognac are allowed to use it. The beverage follows other rules, including the use of a specific variety of grapes, more commonly Ugni Blanc Saint Emilion. Like wine and whiskey, the brandy is aged for at least two years in oak barrels and then distilled twice, sold with an average alcohol concentration of 40%. Tobacognac captures the synergy between the cognac and tobacco aromas, both fruity and woody, warm and sweetish, dense and intoxicating. Floral and oriental notes contribute to a sophisticated and alluring effect.
